One of the most common global problems is the back pain. At one point or the other one experiences this pain in their life. As a result it has got a high incidence rate, about 9 out of 10 suffers from it once in their lifetime. The pain in the back shows a wide range of character. It may have an abrupt onset or could be chronic too. The severity of the pain varies from mild to moderate to sometimes unbearable. The pain may also get radiated to other parts of the body. It also gives a variety of sensation like dull or sharp, piercing or burning and sometimes throbbing also. If the pain is radiated to the limbs it may give tingling or numbing sensation of arms and feet. The origin of back pain is mainly from the joints, nerves, ligaments or muscle groups.
There are lots of regions that could let to back pain. Poor body movement and lack of exercise is one of the causes. Poor posture or incorrect posture is one of the most common causes of the pain. Lifting heavy objects, twisting or bending in wrong way or remaining in incorrect posture during sleeping or sitting can cause the pain. Thus, it is very prevalent in desk workers who tend to sit in incorrect position for long hours. Also trauma can cause the pain. May be a car accident or injury during sport action, all can lead to the pain. It is mainly due to muscle sprains, ligament tear or injury to underlying substances in that region. Also, there are chances for it to be secondary to some infectious diseases, the most common one being kidney and pulmonary diseases.
The pain originating in the back shows a variety of symptoms. The pain sometimes may aggravate so much that it could lead to disturb in sleeping. Also generalised body weakness and numb sensation are common complaints of the sufferer. One common problem the victims face especially if the pain is in lower part of the back is during urinating and defecation. These actions can aggravate the pain to a great extent. So it gets really problematic for one to perform the daily morning lavatory rituals. Also, there may be stiffness. Due to stiffness the person may suffer from restriction of movements which is certainly very uncomfortable. Some of the warning signs that suggest worsening of the problem include weakness and numbness in groin region, weakness in limbs, fever, pin and needle sensations, loss of voluntary control of bladder and bowel function, no relief even after rest. In that case one must visit the physician.
Although back pain is a common problem of the generation it ought not to be neglected. A simple pain in the back can be treated in home by hot-cold therapies or other homemade remedies. But if it is not cured and radiates to other parts of the body like abdomen, groin, upper and lower limbs, then visiting a medical practitioner is the wisest choice. As there are lots of non-specific causes for it, a back pain should never be ignored.
