Nothing can be as uncomfortable as back pain. It may be an upper back pain or low back pain but all the same improving the back pain or finding treatment is necessary. You may have experienced sleepless nights and weakness, numbness and tingling due to the back pain. A back pain can be a dull or a sharp pain which may originate from the muscles, nerves, bones or joints.
Back pain is most commonly found in adults and about nine out of ten adults will experience it. In the U.S, acute low back pain is a common concern and people spend approximately $50 billion a year on low back pain. Back pain can have no specific cause and one may be hard to figure out the exact cause though in many cases, a back pain may disappear. It may be intermittent or consistent where in most causes the pain may spread to other areas of the body like arms, legs and joints. A back pain may not necessarily require immediate medical check up since it may go away if you use a local anesthetic.
A chronic back pain is persistent and seems not to go away. In case of a chronic back pain, and then it is advisable to see a physician for diagnosis. The causes of back pain are many and they inflict pain differently. The some of the potential causes of back pain include;
- A low back pain may be caused by synovial joints of the pine. As back pain may not be fully understood, approximately one third of people will suffer chronic back pain from this cause.
- Spinal disc degenerative is also a common cause. This leads to narrowing of the spinal canal causing low back pains especially through standing for a long time.
- Compression of the spinal cord and this compresses the nerves. This condition is called cauda equine syndromes and it is a medical emergency. An affected person will experience bowel and bladder dysfunction
- Osteomyelitis, which is an infection of the bones in the spine is a source of low back pain
- People with a history of canker are also at a high risk of experiencing back pain. This is caused whereby the cancer (breast, lung and prostate) spreads to the spine.
- Cancer may be caused by atrium such as a car accidents or sports injury which may result to a broken bone.
- Back pain may result to people with a history of medical condition which put them at a high risk of experiencing spinal fracture. Pain arising from organ abnormalities may also cause back pain.
- The nerves can be inflated due to infection of the nerves in the spine. This mostly causes an upper or low back pain.
As there are many causes of back pain, a medical evaluation or diagnosis is the best way to find the specific cause of your back pain. This way a proper treatment is set for your back pain. As back pain is a common problem in most people, finding the cause is as important as getting the treatment.
