Shoulder And Neck Pain In Early Pregnancy

It is always a thing of joy when women get pregnant and the high expectation of been a mother begins to become reality. Interestingly is that other realities coupled with the condition of pregnancy begins to set in. Of which is the neck pain felt by some women during the early stages of pregnancy. During the period of early pregnancy, quite a few irregular ailments in bound to be noticed on the body of the woman. The fact that the woman begins to increase in size and weight cannot be ruled out.

These pains on the shoulder and neck are caused by several behavioral factors. Some of which are

*  Sleeping position: the position the woman assumes when sleeping is one of the major factors of the pains felt. The foetus at the early stage of 1 week to 14 weeks is very fragile and a sudden stress on the body most definitely affects the foetus. As the foetus begins to form, the stomach begins to grow making the shape of the body change. During such situation, it is advisable to have a pillow placed at the lower waist level of the woman. This gives her an even balance when sleeping.

*  Restlessness of the mother: at early pregnancy, the foetus is at risk of surviving the first and second trimester. It is advice to mothers to always take enough rest and avoid some strenuous jobs as possible. When a pregnant woman engages in a lot of activities during these periods, it affects the weight on the back of the woman, which transcends to the neck region. While in the work activity, she would often times pace around and swing the neck to and fro, this causes the shoulders to ache as well as the neck pain.

*  Sitting position. Pregnant women may not have the luxury of sitting the usual way they are used to as this will have an effect on the baby. The use of back rest chairs may not be too common, as the growth on the bum may not make this ideally comfortable.

The baby in the womb of the woman is very fragile and needs to be handled with care. Moat especially when the activities of the foetus begin to change in terms of growth. There are times when the mother would want to do some certain things, but will feel constrained by the presence of the baby. Exercise at this period of pregnancy is definitely out of it, and this causes a lot cramping in the muscles of the woman. Yet she could only do a few exercises to ensure her body is safe and fit for delivery.

Below are a few exercises a pregnant woman can engage in.

  • Pacing around:  She could move within a short range radius to help increase the rate of metabolism within her, and also burn some fat around the body region
  • Turning the neck: she should assume a sitting position and turn the neck around to the side and opposite. This helps the neck muscles to relax and prevents cramping on that region.
  • Arms up: from time to time, she should raise her arms while standing to meet each other, then down again. This should be done for about five minutes. This helps the shoulders to relax, as there could be pressure put on it as the pregnancy grows bigger.

Neck pain is not an absolute feeling in early pregnancy for women, as some other women have different reactions and symptoms.
